Mid Summer Cottage Garden Flower Arrangement
A quick and simple gift of garden flowers…..
It’s always lovely to give and receive flowers, but sometimes we don’t have the budget for extravagant bouquets. This is a simple and pretty gift of flowers, including the basket, glass containers and ribbon costs around £8-10……
This plain basket with bottles was purchased for £8 from a local gift shop. (As an alternative you could use a basket with jam jars.)
The flowering perennials are predominately pink in my garden this month, so I selected a Burgundy stitched grosgrain from my stash of Jane Means ribbon to compliment the flowers I would be cutting.
To decorate the basket thread ribbon through the weave and tie into a simple bow……
Fill the bottles (or jam jars) with fresh water ready for the flowers. Then off into the garden with a pair of secateurs.
I collected stems of Astrantia Major & ‘Roma’, Astillbe ‘Sprite’ (including leaves for foliage) and Sedum ‘Matrona’. Cut all stems (except Astillbe) to a similar length to fit into the bottles. Leaving the Astillbe slightly longer to add into the arrangement creating height and softness…..
Hey presto! A gorgeous flower arrangement for your home or a gift.
Each month the garden and hedgerows evolve so simply change the ribbon colour to tie in with your flower selection. Maybe a gorgeous purple in late summer add fruiting brambles and rose hips, or orange ribbon in early autumn filling the bottles with russet leaves and berries?
I hope you enjoy this blog post as much as I enjoyed creating the display. I’m taking a week off for a family holiday in the Lake District. I will be packing my camera as I’m hoping to visit some more beautiful gardens, plant centres and foodie places!
I won’t be blogging during my break (under instructions from other half and son – plus stern look from Ruby our dog!) but I will be sharing my trip, photos and adventures Twitter whilst I’m away, so I will be keeping in touch!
See you all again soon…..
kind regards
